The UH Moodle server will be updated to a new version (2.2) during the week before Midsummer (18th–21st June). During this week, Moodle will be unavailable. After the update, Moodle is available at the old address (http://moodle.helsinki.fi) with a new user interface and the old basic functionality.
The new version also includes new features supporting learning and teaching, including rubric grading in assignments and a workshop activity with built-in peer assessment functionality. Some of the old activities get improvements, for example, the quiz activity gets a new user interface and advanced feedback features. The new user interface comes with a new way to navigate within Moodle.
Two activites will not be available in the new version: the UH wiki connector is replaced with a native wiki activity, which supports groups and individual wikis, and the submissions folder is superseded by a simple shareable folder or the forum activity.
- See more information about the changes in the wiki activity.
- See more information about the discontinuation of the submissions folders.
Teachers using wiki or submissions folders in their course areas will be contacted separately by email later in the spring.
Documentation about the version change will mostly be published in Finnish, but links to resources in English will be provided at the Moodle wiki's Quick guide page: http://wiki.helsinki.fi/display/moodle/Quick+guide+to+teaching+in+Moodle. Based on interest, training sessions in English focusing on the changes brought by the version change will be held in August. More information on the training sessions will be provided later in the spring.
